Annette Benning's character in "The American President", at one point says, "How is it that these people claim to love America, but clearly hate Americans?"
The corollary to that was seen on this weekend's round-robin of talking bobble-heads - all GOP - who are spouting nonsense about the Hamdan decision somehow weakening the U.S. in the so-called War on Terror.
Why is it that Republicans seem so eager to "cut and run" when it comes to the Constitution?
Why does the self-proclaimed "party of faith" lack faith in our democratic institutions?
I believe that our hand is strengthened by the Hamdan decision in this conflict against islamofacism and terrorism.
In part, it is because we should treat our enemies better than they would (and do) ourselves.
We will win out in the battle of ideals only when we aspire to hold true to the promise of our Constitution and democracy - not by rationalizing the forays into barbarism into which this administration so willingly slips.
