I like to spend Wednesday evenings cruising over to the Creators.com site to read Molly Ivins, Deb Price and once and a while dip into the wingnut sections.
One of my favorite wingers is Ben Shapiro... not because he's a particularly good writer (he isn't) but because of his desperate attempts to be the Schlaffly of his generation.
He often writes about all the bad things that liberals do -- especially in colleges and universities and often his rants go anti-gay.
So knock me over with a feather when his annual Independence Day column was titled "America the Beautiful" -- where he quoted from the poetry of Katherine Lee Bates. He even told part of the story of how and when she wrote it.
PART of the story. Of course, he and all the other anti-gay illiterati do their usual whitewash of the story. Bates was a lesbian. Which is certainly something we wouldn't want people to know when they're singing America's other anthem... now would we? <GRIN>
